What is a check engine light? Sensors in your vehicle monitor the operation of its various systems and connect to the On-Board Diagnostic II (OBD-II) system. When something isn’t functioning properly, the computer system in your engine triggers the check engine light to turn on. When the check engine light is on, not only will your car fail NY state emissions inspection, but your engine components may be at risk for further damage if the problem is not diagnosed and corrected.
